★★½: The Green Knight by David Lowery

This film is beautiful; it's just not very entertaining.

The cinematography, the coloring, and the styling are all absolutely stunning, and they fulfill their purpose of transporting you into a darker, more magical version of the world. The surreal, gory shots, in particular, were very powerful. The lettering was beautiful.

The second act was extremely boring. I felt no emotional attachment to any of the main characters and honestly could not care less if they lived or died. The talking fox was a bad choice and took away from the serious tone of the film; there's no way around it. There was so much potential here— the POC casting, the otherworldly visuals, the creative liberty afforded by the source material itself. But the messy, seemingly aimless writing really floundered it all, and it's really disappointing how wasteful the end result feels.
