★★★: Billy Star by Ian Simpson

The color grading on this is beautiful; it feels like urban summer, not running through over-romanticized, sticky sweet dandelion fields but real summer, meeting your friends in dirty parking lots and settling for someone who hides you from the world because its the first time you've ever felt love and you're scared it'll be the last. The fact that they shot at night as amateurs and still managed to end up with clean, deliberate lighting is really impressive. Kevin Abstract has an INSANE amount of potential as a director and I can't wait for the day he makes a feature film. This feels like something I would've daydreamed when I was 14, in the best way possible.
