You could say I listened to this movie rather than watched it; aside from the scenes with interesting editing, I was more focused on being frustrated with my work on Photoshop than with the actual film. I actually think that’s exactly why I enjoyed it; had I scrutinized it or gave it my full attention, I would’ve probably ended up kinda pissed off.
There are a lot of “self-aware” takes on the manic pixie dream girl trope, and 500 Days of Summer does it well enough, but could have certainly done it better, which is easily proven by the amount of men who watch this and think Summer should’ve ended up with Tom, or that Tom is the real victim here.
Honestly, this movie would be an hour shorter if Tom just went to therapy instead. The editing is genuinely very creative and Joseph-Gordon Levitt is one of my favorite people to look at, so kudos to that, I guess.
